Eat...
Dinner and a (fiery) show. Grab a Mai Tai and sit down for an authentic Hawaiian dinner as you watch the sun dip below the
waves. Then cap it all off with a thrilling Polynesian-style show. There are many luaus to choose from throughout the islands,
from Maui to Oahu to Kauai.
Merriman's (Big Island). This popular dining spot in Waimea is always busy. But once you've sampled the signature wok-charred
ahi, the succulent lamb from nearby Kahua Ranch - or any of the other fantastic seafood and meat dishes - you won't mind if
you have to wait.
Cafe Pesto (Big Island). If Italian food in Hawaii sounds strange to you, you've obviously never sampled the fare at Café
Pesto. Regulars here drive great distances for the gourmet pizzas, calzones, and other satisfying dishes made with fresh organic
ingredients.
Play...
Tee off. Hawaii's golf courses are legendary. Play where the pros play: on championship courses framed by lush trees and tropical
plants. The panoramic ocean and mountain views are unmistakably Hawaiian.
Hulihee Palace (Big Island). Take a guided tour of this former summer home for Hawaii's royalty. Erected in 1838 by Governor
John Adams Kuakini, the two-story mansion retains much of its 19th Century character.
Explore...
Kula Kai Caverns and Lava Tubes (Big Island). Explore some of the underground lava tubes and caves that have been carved into
the Big Island over the past millennium.
Captain Dan McSweeney's Year-Round Whale-Watching Adventures (Big Island). During humpback season (December to April), veteran
whale researcher McSweeny makes a pair of three-hour trips daily in search of these marvelous 45-foot acrobats.
Waimea Canyon (Kauai). Referred to as "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific," this 3,500-foot deep canyon is a wonder to behold.
Every hike is rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Kauai.
Fair Wind Snorkeling and Diving Adventures (Big Island). This "sail-and-snorkel" cruise is a great way to explore the marine-life
preserve of Kealakekua Bay.
Haleakala National Park (Maui). Experience a wide range of ecosystems all within the boundaries of this amazing park, from
lush costal areas to arid wilderness to an "island in the sky", Haleakala's 10,000-foot summit stretches above the clouds.
Shop...
Gallery of Great Things (Big Island). For an eclectic mix of one-of-a-kind treasures by local artists, look no further than
the Gallery. Paintings, feather masks, sketches, jewelry, and glassware are some of the items you may find.
Art nights (Maui). The historic whaling village of Lahaina is home to more than 40 art galleries (quite possibly more galleries
per capita than any other town in America). And every Friday is "art night" when these galleries host special shows, hold
artist demonstrations, and more.
Kimura Lauhala Shop (Big Island). This small shop overflows with mats, hats, tote bags, and other items made from lauhala,
a fragrant fiber woven from the leaves of the hala tree.
