Some of the richest history in Italy can be found in Sicily including that of the Greeks, Arabs, Normans, Romans, and even
the English. From archaeological sites to the baroque in Noto, there is something for everyone in Sicily. Still active Mt.
Aetna is sometimes covered by snow even though the climate is pleasant year round. Get in the mood for your trip to Sicily
by watching the epic movie The Leopard (Il Gattopardo) starring Burt Lancaster. On an island, you have to eat the seafood,
but Sicily is also famous for its fruits and vegetables. The wine industry in Sicily is one of the fastest growing in Italy.

Eat...
Don Salvatore (Naples) A wonderful place to have a romantic dinner and enjoy superb views of the bay.
Teatro Politeama (Sicily). Sicily offers a multicultural mix of spices and flavors like no other, and Teatro Politeama is
an area where you can sample it all. Several restaurants can be found here, filled with locals.
Play...
Attend the opera (Naples). The biggest international stars make stops at the world-class opera house, Teatro San Carlo. The
opera season runs from December to June.
Explore...
Mount Vesuvius (Campania). It takes just a few hours to visit the volcano that blew its top and buried the citizens of Pompeii
- only an hour for a scenic walk if you don't want to visit the crater.
Pompeii and Herculaneum. Both towns and their citizens were buried almost instantly - and thus both societies were very well
preserved. You can visit both in a few hours.
The Archaeological Museum (Naples). The Museo Archeologico Nazionale is a repository for many historical artifacts, including
items from Pompeii and Herculaneum. Other highlights include large collections of Roman sculptures, mosaics and frescoes.
Basilica di San Nicola (Bari). One of four Palatine churches of Apulia, the basilica of St. Nicholas was founded in 1087.
Shop...
Riviera di Chiaia (Naples). This high-end area is home to the biggest names in Italian fashion.
The Bari Market. You can find some of the best shopping in Southern Italy in the shopping districts of Via Sparano, Via Argiro
and Via Manzoni. But various items can also be found among the fresh fish, fruits and vegetables at this open-air market,
a Bari tradition for hundreds of years.
Go antiquing (Naples). This city is a great place to buy antiques, as long as you know enough to spot the occasional fake.
The Fiera Antiquaria is an event held every third Saturday and Sunday of the month in the Villa Comunale di Napoli on Viale
Dohrn.
