Widely accepted as the most beautiful sea in Italy, Sardinia is the perfect summer vacation spot. Here you will see many of
the who's who of Italy and the rest of the world. However, in the center of the island, Sardinia is home to unspoiled villages
inhabited by people speaking the dialect. Sardinia is known for its seafood, special bread and the filu di ferro liquor that
makes grappa look tame.

Eat...
Gianni Pedrinelli (Porto Cervo). Dine al fresco on fabulously prepared seafood. This place has an international reputation
for good food.
Drink healthy. Sardinian red wine (cannonau) contains powerful antioxidants with cardiovascular benefits, according to published
reports. And given the Sardinian's famously long life span, it's hard to argue otherwise.
Think Porceddu. Although seafood often takes center stage in an island setting, Sardinia is perhaps best remembered for its
porceddu: suckling pick roasted with myrtle leaves. Of course freshly caught fish and Italian pasta is always a possibility
as well.
Play...
Bidderosa Beach. This beach isn't that easy to reach. You must buy a ticket and trek 4 kilometers down a path. But the payoff
is spectacular.
Cala Luna beach. Also difficult to reach, but well worth the effort, is Cala Luna. As the name implies, it's a crescent moon-shaped
beach overlooking the Gulf of Orosei.
Explore...
National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari. This museum in the capital of Sardinia houses prehistoric tombs and important
information about the Punic and Roman periods.
Nuraghi and the "Tombs of the Giants." Visit some of the 7,000 tombs and stone cone towers that are spread out over the entire
island of Sardinia. Some remains date to the prehistoric and protohistoric eras.
Tharros archaeological zone. Take your time wandering the ruins at this archaeological site at the water's edge. In fact,
you may want to take a swim when you're through.
Neptune's Grotto (Alghero). Tour a marine cave that has been carved into a sheer cliff. There are many winding passages to
explore.
Museo del Costume (Nuoro). View traditional Sardinian costumes, accessories, paintings and rare historical photos.
Shop...
Via Roma (Cagliari). Stroll the boulevard, sample some of the biggest names in Italian fashion, then relax at one of the cafes.
Or, if you'd like, venture just a little off path for more unique boutiques and antiques.
